The Recent Doings of the Gods
n the Featured Article of March 2009 our graphic artist Jan has given us an insight into the creation of new monsters. He exemplified the process by creating a medusa.
In this year's summer update, the medusa will finally be released. So be careful if you come across a wild looking monster that's hair style is made of snakes. It is not their nature to roam the lands freely, though. They are usually bound to specific places, so you do not have to worry that you will meet a medusa on a peaceful stroll through the lands of Tibia.
In the Featured Article of April 2009, we have explained, how we evaluate hunting grounds in Tibia. For this year's summer update, we have done this again and have adjusted some hunting grounds according to your feedback in the Hunting Ground Analysis Thread, and the data that we collected automatically:
There were several monsters that were not attractive to hunt, because either the loot rate was not good enough to make any profit while hunting, or the loot itself was not valuable for you. So for example, the loot of hellspawns, wyrms, war golems, lost souls and energy elementals has been improved. Improving the loot means that these monsters now carry either more items that can be sold, rarer items or potions, or that the drop rate was raised.
Wyrms also yield more experience points now, as well as war golems and grim reapers, for instance. Apart from loot and experience point adjustments, there were plenty of further changes:
Some monsters were deemed too strong, so the gods have interfered. Mutated humans, for example, have been weakened by a curse. They still know how to paralyse or poison their victims, but their evil attacks will not have such a great effect anymore. Something similar happened to the war golem. Its ability to heal itself was reduced.
Grim reapers and lost souls withstood the curse of the gods and kept their skills, however, that effort cost them several hit points.
It has also been discovered that water elementals sometimes swallow different things which they cannot digest. It is difficult to get to those things while they are alive, but if you ever kill a water elemental, maybe you should try fishing in the corpse. You might be surprised.
For unknown reasons, wisps have developed antipathy against humans. They will not bug you anymore and will rather try to avoid you. Some warriors suspect that they are trying to hide something...
In our hunting ground analysis, we have also discovered some very unhappy monsters. The gods have listened to their complaints, and they underwent some special training.
Infernalists, for example, were so annoyed by demon skeletons that they quickly learned a new kind of attack to harm them.
Chakoyas complained that they were in a real bad shape, so they received some physical training. They got indeed stronger during the training, however, they still complained that they felt weak. The gods then discovered that they carry all their belongings around with them, which practically wears them out. So as a solution, the gods taught them how to store items in safe places. Now they feel a lot fitter and do not have to carry everything around with them anymore.
Ice witches were also among the complaining monsters. They saw their chance and attended every single training. Unfortunately, they did not pick up anything useful, except that they improved their magic a little bit due to practising. Seeing their disappointment, the gods showed compassion and increased their hitpoints.
There were several further monster changes, however, these are the most prominent examples of the gods' interference. They did not only change the monsters, though. They also reshaped the landscape a little bit. If you look closely, you might discover a new way to reach Chor, for example.
Also, since the demons in Yalahar were tired of so many people stopping by, the gods have listened to their complaints and made it a little bit harder for you to get there.
Since the bog raider bosses were so intimidated by the monsters surrounding them, they decided to move when they were given the chance.
When some alarmed citizens of Tibia warned the gods about too many monsters roaming the lands and it being too dangerous for travellers, the gods did not listen, however. So in an anti-crisis-meeting, the citizens decided to elect some of them that would now be in charge of searching brave adventurers who would help them solving this problem.
Courageous warriors will now be able to sign up for a new type of task. Essential skills each applicant needs are endurance and bravery. It does not matter how experienced you are, the elected citizens are looking for volunteers of all experience levels. They are not going to expose their helpers to any more risk than necessary, so if you are interested, you should really try to apply. One of these elected citizens you could apply to is Grizzly Adams in Port Hope, for example.

Tibians Love Soccer
id you watch the Champions League Finals on May 27? Many CipSoft members did so. We were glued to the TV and excitedly cheered for our favourite teams. A look at our online statistics reveals that, obviously, we shared our real life excitement with many of you on this day. We experienced a sudden decline of players starting at around 8.45 pm CET which corresponds with the beginning of the first half of the match. During the half time break, however, the statistics settled down on an increased level, only to decline again when the second half started. Although it was a match between European soccer teams, we could recognise the same decline on American game worlds as well. Looks like soccer fans can really be found all over the world, even in Tibia. Play fair! Your Community Managers |

Expansion of the Skull System
n our second update teaser, we want to give you a preview on the first steps we are going to take to achieve the goals we outlined with respect to the PvP system. As you can read in the featured article "PvP in Focus", we approached the re-evaluation of Tibia's PvP system with due care since we are aware of its complexity and the controversy of this issue. Therefore, we tried to involve you, Tibia's community, in this re-evaluation right from start. The feedback from the first public discussions formed the basis of our internal discussions. Several weeks ago, we presented you two of the ideas that emerged from these discussions in our developer notes. The comments, doubts and suggestions that were raised in the designated threads helped us to make some adjustments and to come to a final decision.
As we have already stated on the discussion board, we have dropped the idea to introduce non-PvP zones on normal PvP worlds due to the extensive criticism it received. Nevertheless, several protection zones and what you can find there will change a bit. For example, NPC Lokur in Kazordoon's depot is currently training his banking skills. So in addition to his work as a postman he will also offer banking services from the update on. In Ankrahmun and Port Hope, for example, some shops will also become protection zones. Moreover, promotion places will be turned into protection zones. Also, the Tibian royals will no longer tolerate any violence in their dignified rooms.
Generally speaking, the feedback we received on the black skull concept was quite positive even though several aspects were critised. The majority of players who took part in the discussion approved of the general idea to replace the banishment for excessive unjustified player killing by ingame punishments. However, our idea of an instant death at the moment a character receives a black skull was approached with considerable scepticism. We carefully considered your arguments, reviewed our concept and made several adjustments to meet the points of criticism.
With the summer update, we will remove the banishment reason excessive unjustified player killing, it will no longer exist. Yet, ingame restrictions are necessary to ensure that the situation does not get out of hand. Even though player killing is allowed on normal PvP worlds, we want to prevent rampant killing sprees. Therefore, we decided to focus on the skull system and to develop it further: The black skull will be added to the current skull system with the forthcoming update.

Revamp of Carlin and New Hunting Grounds
re you ready for a sneak peek at this year's summer update? We hope our weekly update teaser series, starting today, will help to ease your waiting time. We have some exciting things to share with you so let's get going.
Even though there will be no new city this time, we do have some eye candy for you today. Tibia's highly skilled craftsmen and builders have done a fantastic job in rebuilding Carlin. The city will be an emblem of female elegance and taste with the smell of history in the air: steeply pitched roofs, elaborate timber-framed buildings, imposing statues and the lush greenery of parks all add to Carlin's medieval and venerable charm. To provide more convenience, the bank and the depot have been united in one big room with more entrances and exits.

Your Feedback about Tibia and CipSoft
t is very important for us at CipSoft to find out how the Tibia community evaluates the general work we are doing. For this reason, we start a feedback form once in a while in order to get a better impression of our community's attitude towards the products and services we offer: What, do you think, is running smoothly? What can we change for the better? There has been a total of 2084 players who participated and filled in the form this time. After having made an evaluation of their feedbacks we can finally present to you a short summary of the results. First of all, we could register an overall improvement of our work compared to last year's survey. This is great and we are more than happy about this development. On the other hand, you have showed us that there is still some room for further improvement, so let's go into detail: In comparison to 2008, we made a big step towards a bug-free gaming experience. Many of you seem to be largely pleased with our technical development as well as with Tibia's update frequency. It is good to hear that! On the other hand, an alarmingly high number of players mentioned that Tibia is a rather aggressive game. Obviously, this issue is mainly due to the power abuse problem, so improving this point is already on our agenda. Furthermore, many of you share the opinion that our customer support team is quite tolerant and generous in its decisions. Here we noticed a slight improvement compared to last year. However, obviously we are still not responding quickly enough on your email requests. CipSoft's communication on the internet has achieved the best results! We improved in almost every aspect of our communicational work, most significantly in being informative and on time with our news. For most of you, our way of interacting with the community is friendly and interesting with regards to content. According to your feedback, though, our communication is too selective, so this aspect should be changed for the better. The community generally appreciates our efforts to spend more time and energy into community building and into a careful product management. We already made a step towards solving any problems that occur quickly, but still many of you believe that we are too slow in it. Furthermore, there seems to be a great demand among players for a closer contact to CipSoft. We, the community managers, are already working hard on improving here. We thank you for your constructive and honest feedback. We are very happy about the results, may they be good or bad for us, as they help us in improving our services and products. You gave us a lot credit for our efforts and the steps we have already taken. On the other side, gladly, you have not refrained from providing honest criticism. We will consider all your feedbacks very carefully in the future. Thanks to the participants! Your Community Managers |
